It may be difficult for the to avoid their first three-game losing streak with on the mound. Bonderman hasn’t received a decision in his last three starts, with the Tigers winning each time. His last outing was washed away after he allowed five runs on six straight hits with one out in the third inning of Friday’s matchup at Cleveland, which was rained out after four innings were completed. His confidence, Hughes said, “is up there. I’m throwing the ball well. I’m just trying to keep it going. There’s a lot of season ahead of us.” Manager decided not to pitch Vazquez this past weekend in Boston. “We’ve all seen him do that a lot,” Girardi said. “Some of the time on our side and some of the time on the other side.” “When you’re struggling like this in a market like this, it’s louder and harder,” general manager Brian Cashman told the Yankees’ official website. “He’s not running from it. You can see that it bothers him. It hurts. He wants success, he wants to do right by everybody.” The right-hander is 2-0 with a 5.51 ERA in three outings at home. He has given up at least five runs in four straight starts, yielding five over 5 1/3 innings in a 5-4 loss at Minnesota on Wednesday. “He wants to get back out there and pitch, and that’s how I would expect him to be,” Girardi said. “But I just thought he could use a little time to catch his breath.” Vazquez threw a pair of side sessions during his time off. The Yankees want him to improve on his lack of control, which has resulted in 15 walks in 23 innings. Vazquez is 2-5 with a 6.09 ERA in seven starts at Comerica Park.
